Supporters of Donegal woman Anne Marie Ward have urged the public to vote for her as 2010 World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year.
With just three days to go until the results are announced, Ward currently leads the polls with more than 43% of the vote, though Brazilian swimmer Ana Marcela Cunha is close behind.
Ward, 44, was nominated for her dedication to charity swims, as well as her remarkable achievement in becoming the first Irish woman - and only 11th person overall - to swim the North Channel between Scotland and Ireland.
Mnay were disappointed when the Portnablagh native was omitted from the shortlist for the recent RTÉ Sports Person of the Year award.
But being named as World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year would surely be a fitting reward for someone who has truly done Ireland proud.
