For anyone looking for new winter time water sport, why not consider underwater hockey also known as Octopush writes Timmy Carey.
The game is played in the swimming pool with two teams of six who chase a weighted puck along the bottom of the swimming pool using a small s shaped stick, trying to score goals at either end. The players are equipped with fins, mask and a snorkel. The games last for 2 x 10-15 minute periods during which the players come up frequently for air. Teams are distinguished from each other by different coloured hats and sticks. Teams are mixed with both ladies and gents playing in the same team. 

Currently there are only two clubs in Ireland, one in Dublin and one in Cork; with the Cork club only in existence since 2009. There is even an international element to the sport, so if you have neverrepresented your country this could be your opportunity. Getting Started: Regular weekly sessions are held in both Cork and in Dublin. Cork play on a Wednesday night between 7pm and 8pm in Leisureworld Bishopstown. Dublin play on Mondays 8pm – 9pm in Tallaght Leisure Centre, Fortunestown Lane.
