Irish Ferries Rosslare -Pembroke Dock ferry route is currently suspended.

On the operator's sailing updates webpage, the Ireland-Wales route has a warning update.

It reads: "Irish Ferries regrets to advise that the 8.45 Rosslare to Pembroke Blue Star 1 sailing on May 3 has now been cancelled due to ship disruption. You can be accommodated on the Stena Line sailing to Fishguard instead."

The warning is in place on all dates up to May 5 going both ways.

The 'NI Ferry Site blog' reported the Pembroke Dock to Rosslare route was currently not running. The site, which gives updates on the shipping industry, said the reason was that Blue Star 1, the ferry that services the Pembroke Dock to Rosslare route, has been moved to Dublin while W.B Yeats, which serves the Dublin to Cherbourg route, receives maintenance.

NI Ferry Site blog said: "In order to release W.B. Yeats to have a new upper bow door to be fitted, Irish Ferries has moved Blue Star 1 north to take over the Dublin to Cherbourg route.

For further details of the dry-docking at H&W, Belfast, the Western Telegraph reports.

As reported only in mid-March, W.B.Yeats was also in H&W Belfast when the cruiseferry had repairs to the upper car-deck following damage in heavy seas. 

Afloat will have further sailing updates on Irish Ferries fleet movements to reflect the changes on both routes.

Sailings between Rosslare and Fishguard in south Wales continue to be suspended as the Stena Europe's stay in dry dock is extended to June 4.

As Afloat previously reported, the Irish Sea crossing was temporarily cancelled, initially until May 22.

Stena Line said that it had been decided to send the vessel for repair at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, following a routine inspection of the ferry.

It was initially anticipated that the repairs would be completed by May 21 and the ferry back on the run by the 22.

However, the company still has no Irish Sea crossings from Fishguard and (yesterday) confirmed that the Europe's stay in dry dock has been extended.

"Stena Line is continuing to carry out works on the Stena Europe, while travel restrictions with the Republic of Ireland remain in place," said a spokesperson for the company.

"An announcement from the Irish Government is expected (today) Friday, May 28, on Digital Green Certificates and International Travel and Stena Line plans to have the Stena Europe back in service on June 4."

Beneteau 211 sailing in Ireland

A small, fast cruiser/racer – in style very much a miniature Open 60 or early Figaro, the Beneteau First 211 offers high sailing performance for her size, plus simple accommodation for up to four people.
The boat is very dinghy-style to sail, although the keel makes her self-righting, and foam buoyancy renders her unsinkable, according to the French manufacturer.

Designed by Groupe Finot and introduced in 1998 as a replacement model for the 1992 model First 210, the Beneteau First 211 is a small high-performance yacht designed to be simple to sail and take the ground or be trailed. The words' pocket rockets' tend to be used to describe these boats!
The design was revised to become the Beneteau First 21.7 in 2005. All three models, 210, 211 and 21.7, are very similar in style and concept and share many actual components.

The hull of the Beneteau First 211 is solid GRP, with sandwich construction for the deck moulding. There is foam buoyancy at the bow and stern, guaranteeing unsinkability. The ballasted drop keel is raised by a manual jack and allows easy transport of the boat and drying out if required, supported level by the twin rudders.
The sailplan has a non-overlapping jib to keep sheet loads down and a large spinnaker to achieve high speeds downwind. With almost six foot of draught with keel down and twin rudders for control, upwind performance is also excellent.

The design is popular in Ireland's boating capital at Dun Laoghaire Harbour, where up to a dozen race as part of a one-design class in regular Dublin Bay Sailing Club racing. The boats also race for national championship honours annually. The boats are kept on Dun Laoghaire Marina and look all the more impressive as the fleet of pocket rocket racers are all moored together on one pontoon.
