Dublin Port will host a series of events later this month for the second annual Irish Port Safety Week.
Running from 24-28 October, the five days will see a number of events including crucially important fire-awareness training, terminal tractor and tug demos, and on the Friday a land-based emergency scenario in association with Dublin Fire Brigade.
Road safety will be in focus as new speed limits within the port area will be unveiled on Tuesday 25 October, while driving simulators for HGVs (and STS) will be available each day.
Individuals’ health and wellbeing is also an important part of safety at Irish ports, and to this end the week will have a mental-health talk with rugby analyst Brent Pope as well as First Aid training and afternoon yoga sessions.
Speaking about last year’s inaugural week, Irish Ports Safety Forum chair John Carlton said: “This week is an opportunity to work collaboratively to improve safety and performance in the port sector, share experience and knowledge in order to drive continual improvement in eliminating accidents at work.”
