New or 'Pre-enjoyed'? New Boats Vs Used Boats
Budget is a big consideration, of course, but there are other factors that will affect whether you buy a new or pre-owned boat.
New boats may suit those who are planning to keep their craft for some time, have been on the water before and know exactly what they want.
However, a five-year-old model could be as much as half the price of a new one, giving you a whole lot more boat for your money. Even a year-old boat will have depreciated by between 20-25% since it left the 'showroom'. There is also the possibility that any snags will be have been ironed out by the previous owner, particularly if they are a careful boater. Martin Salmon of MGM says if you1re worred about depreciation, then "buying a used boat can be a good investment if you choose carefully. They don't depreciate as much from the purchase price.”
