The Mixed dinghy fleet will be returning to the water at the Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven, Cork Harbour, in April.
The club wants to encourage boat ownership, and “this fleet is all about fun while learning to sail with other people; making new friendships is at the heart of the sailing".
The fleet offers a great blend of social sailing with the opportunity to race. We want to encourage racing for those who are interested. We have many options for those that do not enjoy the racing element of sailing. It’s not all about racing.”
“With a wide range of boats and age groups accommodated, this fleet brings all our sailors together. The Feva dinghy is our boat of choice for younger sailors, a boat well-built and readily available. We are trialling several boats for teenagers to find the best fit for them. We had a successful 420s trial over the past weeks,” an RCYC statement says.
The club will be making available several club boats for sailors who don’t have one. “We want to encourage boat ownership, so sailors can ‘try before they buy’ to ensure it is for them.” This is a positive move to encourage involvement in sailing.
