In a challenging day for Irish boats at the UK and Ireland Squib National Championships, the leading Irish boat, in 34th place after three races sailed, is Femme Fatale, sailed by Royal St. George's Vincent Delany and Joe O’Byrne.

Wind varied in Weymouth Bay from 7 to 18 knots, with oscillating wind shifting from 200 to 250 degrees.

In the first race, several attempts were made to start, in which 13 boats were identified as being 'OCS' before the 65-boat fleet got away cleanly.

In the second race, a wind shift when the fleet was one-third of the beat up the course caused the race to be abandoned. The resailing of that race was achieved without any general recalls.

Royal Corinthian YC duo Nigel and Jack Grogan in Helmet Shoing II lead on 12 points from South Caernarvonshire YC's Ric O'Shea, sailed by Tom Jeffcoate and Mark Hogan on 14.

As Afloat reported previously, also racing from Ireland at Portland is Incendio, 33, Josh St. John; Slipstream, 102, Robert Marshall and Fiona Ward; Volante, 807, Simon Watson and Geordie Withers and Outlaw, 785, Ian Travers and Keith O’Riordan.

Racing continues.
