The Squib fleet in Kinsale Yacht Club has announced that KYC has been chosen as the venue for the 2020 British National Squib Championship. It will take place from 21st to 26th June 2020. This event comes to Ireland every five years in recognition of the size of the Squib fleets, both North and South of the border.

Visitors are expected from all over Ireland and Britain for six days of racing in the waters outside Kinsale harbour.

The event will also incorporate The Irish Squib National Championships.

There will also be a variety of social events organised. As Kinsale is the gourmet capital of Ireland visitors can be assured of a wide selection of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets.

There are a large number of hotels, guesthouses, B & B’s and self-catering accommodation in the area along with areas suitable for parking of motor homes.

The event was recently held during Cowes Week and attracted a fleet of 100 Squibs. Colm Dunne and Fiona Ward in Allegro represented KYC at the event.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
