Round Ireland seeking sponsor

19th April 2010
Round Ireland seeking sponsor
The Round Ireland Yacht Race is still seeking a major title sponsor, with just two months remaining until the start. The event's link with BMW came to a close after the 2008 edition, and despite continued interest and support from the town of Wicklow, no title sponsor has come on board for 2010.

The event promises to be as big and high-profile as ever, with entries coming in with increasing variety. Already a Daft.com-sponsored Class 40 has been unveiled, with blind adventurer Mark Pollock teaming up with Air Corps pilot Capt Mick Liddy in the double-handed class. Another local double-hander has declared for the event, and a Wicklow youth challenge was the most recent to announce its intentions to race.

Moving the start to Sunday has allowed a town festival be planned over three days ahead of the race start, with events taking place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. A crew party is planned for Friday night in the Wicklow Gaol, leaving the crews with Saturday to prepare their boats and meet the public.

Entries are expected to number between 30 and 40, which is highly impressive given the tough economic times.

Any brands or corporate sponsors interested in coming on board should contact Dave McHugh of Tri-line sports.
