NUIG and Fermoy lose out at Henley

4th July 2009

NUIG and Fermoy made their exits from Henley Royal Regatta at the semi-final stage today. In the Britannia for coxed fours, Fermoy came up against a heavier crew in Agecroft, who took the lead early and held off the Irish crew’s challenges to win by two thirds of a length. NUIG swapped the lead with a slick Isis unit in the early stages of the Visitors’ Cup for coxless fours, but struggled with their steering. Isis, stroked by Irishman Martin Walsh, won by three and three-quarter lengths.

Henley Royal Regatta (Irish interest) Saturday (Semi-Finals) Visitors’ Cup (Intermediate Four): Isis bt NUIG 3¾l, 7:09. Britannia Cup (Club Four, coxed): Agecroft bt Fermoy 2/3 l, 7:32.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
