Stewardship of our coastal waters, our rich seaweed resource and its potential to mitigate climate change is the theme of a discussion involving two leading marine experts at the Borris House Festival of Writing and Ideas this Saturday, June 17th.
“Fish Soup” is the title of the discussion involving published authors Finn van der Aar and Vincent Doumeizel, speaking with marine journalist Lorna Siggins.
The discussion is billed for 1.20 pm to 2.15 pm in the Granary at the Borris House festival in Borris, Co Carlow.
Doumeizel, who is senior advisor on oceans to the UN Global Compact, is the author of the recently published book, The Seaweed Revolution: How Seaweed Has Shaped Our Past and Can Save Our Future, first published in French and translated by Hero in 2022.
Van der Aar, who holds a BSc in earth and ocean science, an MSc in marine biology and a certificate in culinary arts, is the author of Finn’s World - Do What You Love, Love What You Eat, published by Gill Books in 2017
Doumeizel is also director of the Food Programme at the Lloyd’s Register Foundation and devotes his time to promoting environmental solutions based on sea resources, especially seaweed.
Van der Aar is the EU LIFE Project Coordinator for An Taisce, the National Trust for Ireland, Ireland's longest-standing environmental NGO.
She has worked with a variety of companies and brands, producing written, video and social media content for the likes of the Wild Atlantic Way, SSE Airtricity, Failte Ireland and she was an ambassador for Volvo.
She is currently working on her first piece of fiction, drawing on her experience as a marine scientist and environmental activist, and she shares simple and realistic ideas for sustainable living on her Instagram @saltwaterstories.me
