The Ocean Blue group which built the marina supplied the stopover with pontoons and secured the deal on the back of their VOR involvement.
The press bumph claims that Kochi International Marina is at the ideal geographic location, situated on the south-western tip of India on the backwaters of the city of Kochi (formerly known as Cochin). It is near the international maritime route at the south west coast of the Indian Peninsula and enjoys the added advantage of favourable conditions and minimum tidal variations throughout the year.
The potential of this marina stems from the fact that even without any infrastructure, numerous luxury yachts call at Kochi every year, en route from the Gulf or West Asia regions to destinations in the Far East and vice versa. Also, it is located near the city of Kochi, Kerala, which is one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
Kochi won't feature in the next VOR, but Galway will, which begs the question - will we see an upgrade in Galway Harbour's marine facilitie before 2012?
