The “virtual” consultation on the Ossian wind farm project off the Scottish coast has included four live question and answer sessions, along with availability of documentation on the project’s website.
The Ossian project is a joint venture between SSE Renewables Ltd, the Japanese trading and investment business Marubeni Corporation, and fund management company Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
It has been designed as an array extending across 858 square kilometres of seabed some 84 km off the Angus coast.
It is one of the largest lease areas to be offered by Crown Estate Scotland to any bidder in its “ScotWind” leasing round.
The Ossian array aims to produce up to 3.6GW of renewable energy – enough to power up to six million homes annually, the developers say.
The backers say it will be in the water for over 30 years, and will offset up to 7.5m tonnes of carbon emissions annually when up and running.
The backers say they have been engaging with fishing representative groups since last November “to try to promote and facilitate co-existence”.
