Jegou went off second last in the running order of the C1 (Canadian canoe) final thanks to an excellent performance in the semi-final. However, Kirill Setkin of Russia set a remarkable time of 81.91 seconds, and while Jegou came down the course with no penalties, his time of 88.06 would push him out of the medals. Setkin took gold.
