Defending champions Brian Cullen and Ann Kirwan's Bandit won the Irish Ruffian 23 National Championships by three points after seven races sailed off Dun Laoghaire Harbour on Sunday.
Cullen and Kirwan rotate the helm position each championship, so Bandit defended last year’s win with Cullen on the helm this year.
As Afloat reported earlier, even though Trevor Kirkpatrick at the helm of Northern Ireland entry Carageen from Carrickfergus took three race wins across the DMYC-hosted series, the National Yacht Club's Bandit had a three-point overall cushion thanks to four race victories scored over the course of the three-day event.
Third in the 15-boat fleet – drawn from seven different clubs – was David Cutliffe's Ruffles of the host club.
