Royal Cork Olympian Mark Mansfield was the tactician and main sheet trimmer on John Smart's J109 Jukebox at the 2019 UK J109 Nationals held last weekend at the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble.

The J109 Nationals was part of the Landsail tyres J Cup Regatta and was held in strong to fresh winds that topped out at 35 knots on two of the nine races.

Jukebox dominated the J109 fleet with 5 first places plus two-second place results to finish a full 10 points clear of Second-placed Jiraffe owned by the class captain, Simon Perry. In third place was Jumping Jellyfish owned by Dave Richards.

The strength of the fleet was shown by Chris Prestons Jubilee, winner of the RORC UK IRC Championships a few weeks ago, failing to make the podium. Likewise Just So, owned by David Mc ough, the overall winner of the RORC Morgan Cup a month ago also not in the top three.

Races were a combination of Windward/leeward and around the cans, with big gusts being a feature on the last race of each day.
