Fireball Worlds Competition Finely Balanced After Six Races

Fireball Worlds Competition Finely Balanced After Six Races

#fireballworlds – With six races now completed the Fireball worlds series at Pwllheli is a finely balanced competition - much more so than last week's Nationals might have suggested writes Cormac Bradley.

Yesterday we had glorious conditions, sunshine and healthy breeze which built as the day wore on. Oscar was broken out during the second race and was never rescinded.

Today we had greyer conditions, bigger seas and the strongest wind of the regatta - Oscar was broken out shortly after the orange flag to indicate that the committee boat was on station.

Race 1 was Sausage-Triangle- Sausage and not even the top boats flew spinnakers on the top reach. The second race unusually, was the same format as the race courses had alternated up until now. However, spinnakers did not make an appearance on the top reach. Wind strengths went up and down all day today.

After 6 races Christian Birrell & Sam Brearey lead with 11pts (1, 2, 12, 3, 2, 3). In second place are DJ Edwards & Vyv Townend with 14pts (2, 10, 2, 2, 4, 4) followed by Tom Gillard & Richard Anderton on 16pts (108, 1, 10, 1, 3, 1).

Barry McCartin & Conor Kinsella lead the Irish contingent in 10th place overall. Other Irish results are detailed below.
