Cliff-Jumper Saved From Drowning By Passing Lifeboat Volunteer

#WaterSafety - Dangerous cliff-jumping is putting lives at risk says one lifeboat volunteer after he rescued a young woman from drowning.

According to the Sunday Independent, off-duty Dun Laoghaire RNLI man Wayne Farrell spotted the woman unconscious in the water below an organised group jumping off rocks near Bulloch Harbour last Monday (10 August).

The rest of her group had not noticed her, and when she came to and reported a sore neck and no feeling in her legs, Farrell says he feared a spinal injury - though she thankfully showed improvement when paramedics arrived.

"It could have been a much worse situation," he says. "It was a fluke I was passing in the boat and saw or her she would have drowned."

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
