Help needed for Channel Swim team

Help needed for Channel Swim team

The Irish Cancer Society are hoping to raise urgently-needed funds this September from the attempts of three relay teams from Irish Life Investment Managers (ILIM) to swim the English Channel. Hard training is going on and, whilst ILIM is not awash with triathletes and former competitive swimmers, 18 members of the 20-person project elected to do intensive classes aimed at completely overhauling their swimming technique.

Brian Mangan, the non-swimming team member who will participate on the first team, Team Breac, says that his team's attempt is scheduled to take place in a window starting on 11th September and the team is currently undergoing 'conditioning' training, swimming from boats in the sea as part of the final element of ten months of intensive training.

Team Breac urgently need access to a suitable seagoing boat and skipper (within striking distance of Dublin) who will take six people out to sea for eight hours for sea legs experience next weekend (29th and 30th August). If you can provide such assistance, Brian can be contacted at 01 704 2452 or email him at [email protected]

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven’t put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full–time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
