A west of Ireland company, Aiseanna Mara Teoranta (trading as Sail West), has been appointed to carry out a maintenance programme on the Jeanie Johnston this autumn. The Jeanie Johnston is owned by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) and is currently berthed at Dublin City Moorings.

The maintenance programme ensures that ship remains in good order with works to the timber decking, mechanical and electrical equipment, as well as assessment of all rigging and sails. Aiseanna Mara Teoranta also operates the successful Liffey Ferry service currently operating between Spencer Dock and Sir John Rogerson’s Quay.

Following consideration of a number options for the future of the ship, the Docklands Authority will open the Jeanie to the public as a museum next year.

The Docklands Authority intends to continue to investigate opportunities to sail the ship should funding come available in the future.
