General Manager Required at Marine Distributors, Tralee, County Kerry

2nd August 2022

Company description

The prime business of the company was boat building, but it has now added the distribution of several marine products, ranging from boats to outboard motors, boat trailers and marine safety equipment and general chandlery. This business is currently being developed at a quick pace within Ireland, with great potential to expand into other markets. The company is formerly known as O'Sullivan's Marine and it is a tight-knit family run business since 1963. We are based on the outskirts of beautiful Tralee town, surrounded by breath-taking landscape and just a short drive from the fantastic Kerry coast. This is an exciting management role in a progressive, supportive business with great potential for further growth.

Job description
The purpose of this role is to develop and maintain key relationships with clients/customers and, indeed, suppliers by managing day-to-day operations to ensure client service level expectations are exceeded. This role requires excellent management, communication, sales, leadership, staff supervision and customer service skills. Candidates are required to have a third level qualification relevant to the post. Knowledge of the marine industry is desirable, but not essential. The candidate would be required to have the ability to be involved in all aspects of the business as we have a small but diverse team that works together to ensure best service to our customers and supply-chain. If you feel that you have the hunger and skillset that can satisfy the demands of the business, then we would love to hear from you.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. To be responsible for the overall development of Marine Equipment Distributors Ireland Ltd.
  2. Acting as the first point of contact for staff and trade customers.
  3. Working with trade customers to forecast demands and ensure service level excellence is achieved.
  4. Managing staff.
  5. Managing inventory, including sales and purchases.
  6. Take ownership for driving in-house sales through product focuses and maximising customer spend through quality service.
  7. Expand business-to-business market and increase sales, both online and direct to end user.
  8. Keep up to date with industry trends and new market products and services.
  9. Overlook recruitment of new staff.
  10. Oversee the implementation of a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system – details will be provided at interview stage.
  11. Oversee the implementation of a new B2B website and vastly increased usage of social media.
  12. While the job is practically completely office based, it is a requirement to visit trade outlets throughout Ireland at least once a year. And to be clear, “remote working” is not an option at this point in time.
  13. Ideally, but not essentially, the correct candidate would have a background in the marine industry or sphere.……
  14. Experience in people management skills would be helpful, given that it is a small company of 10+ people.
  15. Finally, ideally, if the candidate has direct 3+ years’ experience in a similar role, it would be a bonus!
  16.  A contractual commitment for two years is a basic requirement, with incentivised salary increases and/or bonuses after that.

Salary Range: €50,000 to €60,000
