Surf doco premiers today

3rd April 2009

Irish surf documentary, Waveriders premieres in cinemas across Ireland today.

The film includes scenes of the biggest swell ever ridden in Ireland and the British Isles, which hit the north-west of the country in December '06, as well as footage of top surfers like nine-times world champion Kelly Slater in action on Irish breaks.

The story unfolds through the inspirational and ultimately tragic history of Irish/Hawaiian legendary waterman, George Freeth, the son of an Irishman, who was responsible for the rebirth of this sport of Hawaiian kings in the early twentieth century.

The film, which includes mesmerising images of surf from the Cliffs of Moher and other Irish surf spots, is narrated by Irish actor Cillian Murphy.

The trailer is below. Details on selected cinemas showing the movie, and other info, available on www.waveridersthefilm.com
