Glens

There are 26 Glens in Ireland, split evenly between Dublin Bay and Strangford Lough, although that balance will tip in favour of Dun Laoghaire in 2009 when a project to restore one boat, Glenfern, which was severely damaged in a boatyard accident some years ago, will be completed.

The two fleets effectively operate as separate units with the one exception being the regular north vs south team race, sailed in the Bay in 2008 and won by the hosts by three races to one.

There are around 20 trophies on offer to the Dublin Glen fraternity and half of those went to one boat – Glendun, owned by the quartet of Brian Denham, Derek Freedman, Dave McConnell and (Class Captain) Alison O’Brien – and that included overall DBSC honours.

There is a space for Irish boating clubs and racing classes to use as their own bulletin board and forum for announcements and discussion. If you want to see a dedicated forum slot for your club or class, click here
